When fitted to the sides of a regular Tillett kart seat, Ribcage panels add extra depth or height, they can also be used to reduce the upper width significantly for drivers with a narrow chest.
Kart seats are available in many different shapes and sizes, but the depth or height of side support offered is nearly always a compromise. Some manufacturers solve this by making a seat with deepened sides, but this fouls the elbows when steering. Wrapping the sides around the driver’s chest brings other problems, the depth of the side becomes critical to the effectiveness of the support and the rigid sides can damage the ribs if the driver is thrown out of the seat. Even worse, serious injury could occur if the seat locks the driver in when turning over in a crash.
The Ribcage body support system solves this problem. It comprises of two “bolt on” composite panels that give extra lateral support for the upper body. If a driver using the Ribcage panels should be thrown forward or out of the kart, they are flexible enough to release the driver from the kart. They also curl around the front of the ribs at the perfect position, whilst avoiding elbow contact when steering.
