USED TO ADJUST THE RIB DEPTH OR HEIGHT OF A KART SEAT.

Product Details

When fitted to the sides of a regular Tillett kart seat, Ribcage panels add extra depth or height, they can also be used to reduce the upper width significantly for drivers with a narrow chest.

Kart seats are available in many different shapes and sizes, but the depth or height of side support offered is nearly always a compromise. Some manufacturers solve this by making a seat with deepened sides, but this fouls the elbows when steering. Wrapping the sides around the driver’s chest brings other problems, the depth of the side becomes critical to the effectiveness of the support and the rigid sides can damage the ribs if the driver is thrown out of the seat. Even worse, serious injury could occur if the seat locks the driver in when turning over in a crash.

The Ribcage body support system solves this problem. It comprises of two “bolt on” composite panels that give extra lateral support for the upper body. If a driver using the Ribcage panels should be thrown forward or out of the kart, they are flexible enough to release the driver from the kart. They also curl around the front of the ribs at the perfect position, whilst avoiding elbow contact when steering.

KEY FEATURES

  • RIBCAGE panels allow the rib area of the seat to be closely matched to the driver, helping adjust the depth, width and hight problems.
  • Includes two composite panels for extra lateral support for the upper body.
  • The flexibility of the panels will not trap a driver in a rollover crash. A wrap around seat could be dangerous in this situation.
  • Ribcage panels do not alter the properties of the original seat by changing the rigidity and therefore will only have a positive effect on the lap times.
  • One size.
  • Black with chrome Tillett detail.
  • Waterproof.
  • Weight 250g.
  • Ribcage spacer kit available, please see additional product list.
  • Designed and manufactured in the UK.
Features
1. Factors to consider

There are many factors to consider when choosing a new kart seat.
If you have had a seat in the past. Do you know the size and shape?

2. Choose a Shape

Shape does not make as much difference as the teams would have you believe, but they will be nervous of miss positioning the seat and may want you to use the shape they are used to fitting.

This is fine until the seat is not the right fit for you. An ill-fitting seat can cause a driver to damage their body or hang on the wheel, neither are good for ultimate performance.

Different shapes put in the chassis with the drivers back in exactly the same place, made with the same materials will pretty much handle the same.
That said a significant angle change of the back will alter the handling especially for bigger driver and this should be looked at separately.
