T5

MORE UPRIGHT SEAT POSITION, FOR YOUNGER DRIVERS.

The T5 kart seat is a World Championship winning product, used by drivers such as Lando Norris.

The T5 shape is nowadays predominantly used by younger or smaller drivers.

This model has a flat bottom and a more upright back position. The 63° back angle allows a powerful shoulder turn, which helps the very young racers.

With the T5 model, Tillett created the first ever “flat bottom” style seat. This innovation was eventually replicated by many other brands, as the iconic design feature gives a favourable performance advantage.

KEY FEATURES

  • The T5 model has a flat base and a 63-degree upright seating position for additional power in the shoulders.
  • The T5 seat is the most popular shape for drivers aged 8-12 years.
  • First “flatbottom” kart seat ever created was a Tillett product in the T5 model.
  • Approximate weight 1.4kg.
  • Made with high strength resin.
  • Sizes available Ccd, CL and XScd, made to order.
  • Used by professional teams and manufacturers.
  • Highly developed moulding technique, designed and manufactured in the UK.
  • For best results we recommend pairing this seat with one of our Tillett P1 rib protectors.
  • Most chassis use a standard setup which includes additional upper seat stays. If these are not to be used, it is recommended to fit the TK7 seat support plates on the main upper stay points.
  • See recommended optional extras below.

Why Fit Matters

A proper fit is essential for driver protection and kart handling. A loose seat causes the driver to pull when steering, lifting themselves from the kart and creating instability.

Assessing Fit With a Seat

With rib protection worn, sit in the seat and check the gap at the leg bone, hip bone, and along the ribs. The rib protector shouldn’t compress inward when seated. You should barely fit your fingers between your body and the seat at any point. Pressure should be even throughout – nothing loose or pinching. Firm foam can correct minor looseness; pinching requires a different size.

Assessing Fit Without a Seat

Jeans waist size, weight, height, and chest circumference are reliable indicators. Note your rib protector type – thicker models can require up to two sizes larger and leave hips loose. Consider a slimmer protector or our WT (wide top) T11 seat to compensate.

Fitting the Seat

Half the kart’s weight shifted 5mm will affect balance. Average seat positions have moved roughly 3cm rearward since the late nineties. See our fitting guide PDF for detailed instructions.
