Tillett W-Series Seats are immediately recognisable due to their low profile and lack of headrest. This is a necessity in some race cars such as smaller single-seaters, where cockpit space is limited.

What is a W Designated Seat?

Tillett’s popular W-series Seat Range currently comprises 6 models, constructed from Carbon, GRP or Carbon/GRP. The defining feature of any W-series seat is a lack of headrest. Designed for situations where a headrest is either not required or not practical, customers range from historic car owners and racers, to prototype and formula drivers to kit car owners. They are also increasingly popular as Esport Sim Seats.

What is the difference between models?

The 6 W-series seats offer subtle variations to cater to a wider range of drivers, ensuring they can find the ideal seat for their specific needs. These differences primarily revolve around the recline angle, with seats falling into three main categories: less reclined, semi-reclined, and ultra-reclined (a very laid back formula car driving angle).

Additionally, within each category, you'll find both a standard fit and an 'XL' option, which maintains the same seat shape but provides extra width for larger drivers. To assist in your selection, each seat's product page provides guidance on weight and waist size compatibility.

Key Features of the W-series Range

Fit, support and comfort: All Tillett W-series seats are created following the same exacting design, development and production process as every other composite seat in the range. This means that Tillett’s famed ‘anatomically correct’ contouring is present, to optimise support where the driver's body contacts the seat. This results in an incredibly communicative seat which holds the driver firmly in place when really pushing on, but at the same time is capable of superior levels of comfort - even over longer distances.

Weight Saving: Easier access and better visibility are both highly desirable by-products of the lack of headrest as is the additional advantage of extra weight savings. Tillett seats are already renowned for their very light weight, however the more compact design of W seats means that advantage is amplified. For example, the weight of a W4 (without back-frame) is around 2kg!

Uprated Safety: W seats deliver significant safety-related benefits, such as improved impact resistance and the option to use proper race harnesses.

British Manufacture: Especially important to classic British car drivers who value authenticity, and prefer to upgrade their vehicles with products that have been made in Britain. Tillett seats have always been designed, tested and hand finished in Britain, at the Company’s HQ in Kent.

Maximising Space: Space constraints are a common issue, particularly in formula and prototype cars, as well as classic and kit cars which usually have smaller cabins. Finding a suitable replacement seat that fits can be quite challenging. The Tillett W seats are specifically designed with an ultra-compact profile to effortlessly accommodate even the tightest cabin spaces.
